To begin with, let us know about what is NIOS?
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts nationally, and government recognized 10th and 12th standard board examination for students across the country year. Aspirants who wish to appear for board examinations but have not been able to pursue formal education in a school due to various circumstantial reasons can appear for the exams conducted by NIOS.
The board holds the main sets of examinations two times a year, and the registration process for both sets is available in detail on the website. As understood, the eligibility criteria for NIOS board examinations is different for both 10th standard and 12th standard aspirants.
NIOS Eligibility Criteria for Class 10
- The candidate must be of at least 14 years of age on 31 January of current year.
- The candidate must possess and submit a photocopy of the school leaving certificate of 8th or 9th standard, signed by the Principal and recognized government authority.
- Submission of ADHAAR Card and address proof is mandatory.
- In case of reservation, student must submit ST/SC/OBC/Physically Handicapped or other category certificate issued and signed by concerned authority.
- The candidate must submit 2 passport sized photographs.
- If a student is applying for reattempt, then the original failure or compartment marksheet of the previous attempt is to be submitted.
NIOS Eligibility Criteria for Class 12
- The candidate must be of at least 15 years of age on 31 January of current year.
- The candidate must possess and submit pass certificate of 10th standard board examination issued by a recognized educational board.
- Submission of ADHAAR Card, address proof, passport size photographs and reservation category certificate (as applicable) is mandatory.
- In case of reattempt, then the original failure or compartment marksheet of the previous attempt is to be submitted.
In addition to the regular NIOS class 10th and 12th board examinations, the board also conducts on-demand examinations every month for students who want to improve their marks in one or two subjects and do not wish to wait for the next academic session to appear for the entire set of subjects. NIOS Eligibility Criteria for On-Demand Examination
- The candidate must submit compartment or failure marksheet of previous attempt to register for this examination.
- Reservation certificate, ADHAAR Card, Passport photographs, and address proof are also to be submitted.
