What is NIOS passing marks?
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an educational board under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India that offers students the opportunity of availing qualifying courses without attending a full time classroom program.
The allowance of open schooling system, especially for which the results and certificates issued are recognized by higher education institutions and employers is a boon for thousands of students in the country. It offers the flexibility of studying from home for students who are not able to attend regular school.

- For NIOS class 12 examinations, you need to attain a minimum of 33 % aggregate marks, with 5 subjects appeared for in total, and a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 language subjects. This is inclusive of both theory and practical examinations, as applicable.
In addition to the standard board examinations, NIOS also conducts on demand examinations that offer the opportunity to appear for a select set of subjects. The board carries a record of the marks attained in previous attempts and displays the score which is better of the two in the final marksheet and pass certificate generated.
