Passing Marks for NIOS Subjects

Secondary Course (Class X)

• Students must score a minimum of 33% in the aggregate of theory plus practical (where applicable) in the public examination.

Senior Secondary Course (Class XII)

• A minimum of 33% separately in the practical component (for subjects that include practicals).
• A minimum of 33% in the aggregate of theory plus practical in the public examination.

It is important to note that in practical-based subjects, failing to secure 33% in either theory or practical will result in a “Not Passed” grade, even if the combined score is more than 33%.

Award of Certificate

Once a learner meets these criteria in five subjects (including at least one language and not more than two languages), they are awarded the respective NIOS certificate for Class X or Class XII.
